Q&A with Owner, Designer & Cabinetmaker
Following on from our blog last month where we interviewed Angela (click here to read) this month we interview the other half of this dynamic duo – Mark, who is a qualified cabinetmaker and also owner of Built to Desire.
Mark is hands on in the business meeting with clients to design their dream kitchen and/or joinery project. He hasn’t given up the tools completely and you can still find him on the tools and overseeing each and every project. A man of many talents, we find out more about what started his journey with kitchen design & manufacture.
What inspired you to complete your trade qualification in Cabinetmaking?
I always had a passion for woodwork at school. I decided to leave in year 11 to pursue a career in the cabinet making industry and haven’t looked back.
As the face of the business you get to meet many new clients on a daily basis. What do you enjoy most about meeting with new clients?
I love being able to hear about the clients needs and wants within their family home, everyone has different ideas and it is always great to go in open minded so we can combine their needs and wants with my ideas to ensure we create both a functional and aesthetically pleasing space.
If you had to pick a first love, would it be designing or building?
In the earlier years I would have to say building and being hands on (it is what first inspired me) but as time went on I would have to say designing. Although I still enjoy being hands on when time allows it.
What keeps you motivated?
I would have to say my love for the industry, it is a great passion of mine seeing peoples dream kitchen come to life.
Obviously my family keep me grounded and humble, family is always a great motivator.
What is your greatest piece of advice you could offer someone wanting to renovate their kitchen?
Create a wish list, separate the needs from wants and know your budget. We want to help you create the space you want without exceeding your budget, and this most definitely can be done with open and honest conversations.
What is something that sets Built to Desire apart from its competitors?
I am not here to tell you what I want, I am here to help you create a space that is functional, beautiful but one that works for you and fits your needs. I am personally available 7 days a week and here to ensure every client feels like part of my family.
What is the most rewarding part of your business?
Seeing our clients faces when I have been able to combine their ideas with mine to create a space they love.
What’s something people wouldn’t know about you?
I have grown up in the Macarthur community and absolutely love being a part of it.
Built to Desire Kitchens & Cabinetry was a vision my wife had for a very long time, we have both worked countless hours both day and night to bring this to fruition. We are very grateful to do something we love.
